Where your money goes
Friends of Verdin Park is run entirely by volunteers. Every donation goes directly towards protecting the park and serving the community.
Legal representation
Presenting the community's case to the planning committee requires proper legal advice and, where necessary, professional representation. This is the core of what your donation funds.
Community events
Events like the Tai Chi morning, community picnics, and park clean-up days cost money to organise and run. Donations help us keep these free and open to all.
Running costs
Website hosting, printing, postage, meeting costs — the everyday expenses that keep a community organisation functioning.
The full story
In early 2025, residents discovered that plans were being considered to convert part of Verdin Park into overflow parking for the local hospital. The park — gifted to the people of Northwich in 1887 by the Verdin family and at the heart of community life for over 130 years — was at risk of being permanently lost.
Friends of Verdin Park was formed in response. We are not opposed to the hospital or to healthcare investment. We are asking that decisions about this irreplaceable public green space are made openly, with the community properly consulted — and that alternatives to using the park are genuinely explored.
Legal advice and, where necessary, professional representation at the planning committee gives the community a fair voice in this process. That representation costs money. This is why we are fundraising.
