Campaign Update — September 2026
The campaign has entered a new stage
Northwich Town Council's proposal to use part of Verdin Park for a new NHS staff car park has entered a new stage.
Following legal advice on the process required to lease public parkland, councillors voted at Full Council on 7 September 2026 to authorise the formal statutory consultation process for the proposed lease, rather than proceed straight to a lease.
No part of Verdin Park has yet been approved for conversion into a car park. A public consultation is expected as part of that process, giving Northwich residents an opportunity to have their say.
Friends of Verdin Park will continue to publish what we learn, ask questions about the alternatives considered for staff parking, and explain how residents can take part when the consultation opens.

Wildflower Meadow — 2026 Update
The wildflower meadow has not flowered this year. Chris Shaw, Chief Clerk for Northwich Town Council, has told us: “Unfortunately, and for reasons unknown, the seed has not germinated. We are in contact with the supplier, and we have ordered additional seed to re-sow the area.”

AGM 2026 — Constitution Adopted, Committee Elected
14 members and residents attended our first AGM. The constitution was formally adopted, and Richard George, Carol Ellis, and Caits George were elected Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Donated to the people of Northwich by the Verdin family in 1887, Verdin Park has served as a vital public green space for over 130 years. Open lawns, mature trees, woodland walks and quiet resting spots are part of the town's heritage.
Friends of Verdin Park works constructively with Cheshire West and Chester Council, local schools, businesses, and residents to ensure the park continues to serve the whole community — safely, sustainably, and beautifully.
